Is Japanese food just called "food" in Japan?

So we went to Japan and being crazy as we are we took our children.  This is the first post with pictures of the vacation.  It's the post about Japanese food and I think it includes about 3/4 of the actual pictures that we took in Japan.  We did a lot of eating when we were there.  There aren't as many pictures of the kids because, well, our kids actually slept through most of the meals.  Gotta love Jet Lag, right?

We got to our awesome hotel and they welcomed our children with this:

And didn't feel too stupid because Reuben's parents were also bibbed up

Then we ate about 10 -20 courses of this with crab (all you can eat Shabu Shabu!!!)

The next day Reuben's dad ordered this for Ariana-  WOW!  And they said the portions are small in Japan!

We also ate some colby beef cooked on a rock (the best beef I've even eaten!)
